“ I joined Sri Lanka Cancer Society on 18 October 1982 – the youngest member at the time .
Even though I was deeply involved in the work , I never comprehended or understood
the disease until suddenly one day , my mum got cancer . Only then did I realize the deep
emotional and scarring effect it can have on not only the patient but also on lives of family and loved ones.
I know that this is a shared memory for all of us who have walked this path. “
